Nature Camp 2025
  2025-12-15
15 students of SRS attended a three days School Nature Camp & Educational Excursion to Bunkulung between 15th-17th December.
The Nature Camp was organized by the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) under it's Place Based Education (PBE) project.
From SRS 13 Green Scouts along with 2 senior class XI students participated in the camp. In addition 14 students from Panchabati H.Sec. School also participated in the event.
The event highlighted the philosophy behind the PBE initiative in Nature Education providing a forum for the young participants to interact with each other and learn about Nature and their environment.
Mr. Yougesh Tamang, Project Associate, Education & PBE (ATREE) introduced the objectives and activities under PBE and also imparted his knowledge on resource mapping and spoke about the importance of nature education in the present day.
Dr. Saibal Sengupta who was the resource person for the camp introduced the participants to the world of birds, the basics of birding and in addition also made technical presentations on Biogeography of Darjeeling, Biodiversity of the Eastern Himalaya with specific focus on the Kanchenjunga Landscape (KL). Dr. Saibal also briefed the youngsters about butterfly diversity of the region and techniques of photographing butterflies and odonates.
Early morning group birding sessions, exposure visits to community managed farms, pisciculture units, pineapple orchards and apiary farms kept the children busy and engaged in learning.
While the early morning trips aimed at polishing birding skills and documentation the daytime was a mix of technical sessions coupled with butterfly photography and resource mapping and preparing posters for presentation. The event culminated with each group of students making an oral poster presentation on what they had learned & experienced at the camp and how they would take the message home. In the evenings the children gathered around a campfire and took part in cultural singing and dance.
The participating students, teachers and resource persons are all grateful to the Community at Bunkulung, in particular the Bunkulung Apiary &Agro Beneficiary Committee who provided accommodation and fooding for everyone.
All participants were presented with certificates by Mr. Yougesh Tamang (ATREE) who had planned the event meticulously and had a key role in its grand success.

Coach Chrispin Chettri
  2025-08-27
It was a proud privilege for us to welcome Sir CRISPIN CHETTRI (Head Coach, Indian Women's Football Team) among us today.
He was instrumental in guiding the National Team to the AFC Asia Cup, 2026.
Despite his success as a professional Player and as a Coach at the highest level in India, he is a simple and humble person with zero arrogance that success sometimes brings. He spent over two-and-a-half hours in the School interacting with our boys and with the teachers.
The School remains grateful and indebted to him for the invaluable wisdom, the suggestions, the motivation, and the advice that he shared with our boys. ๐Ÿ™
We wish him and Team India the very best for the Asia Cup in Australia during March, 2026.๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘
Today's event also marked the official launch of the 6th edition of St. Robert Challenge Shield Inter School Junior Football Tournament that kicks off in September.

DHR Joyride
  2025-04-10
DHR Joyride for SRS students

28 students of St. Robert's School enjoyed a joyride from Darjeeling Railway Station to Ghoom and back. The joyride was organised by the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway free of cost. The students boarded the train from Darjeeling station at 7:00 am today and after it's departure at 7:15 the train took them to Batasia loop where it stopped for 15 minutes. It then proceeded towards Ghum station where the students were allowed to visit the DHR Heritage Museum located above the station building. Mr. Mingma Sherpa, an ex SRS student and currently train manager DHR explained to the students the history and significance of the photos and other objects displayed at the DHR museum.

Accompanied by Dr. Saibal Sengupta and Mr. Jeason Lepcha, the students had a fun filled outing riding the 144 years old Heritage train. The train brought them back to Darjeeling station at 8:50 am, after which the students went back to school to attend their classes.

Thank you, DHR for providing this opportunity to our boys. I'm sure they will cherish memories of this Heritage ride. ๐Ÿ™

Farewell & Silver Salute
  2025-04-04
Today was a special day for the Robertian Family, a day in honour of two great pillars of our School: Sir RAJESH THAPA (Retiree) & Shri SUDEN T. LEPCHA (Jubilarian).

We celebrated the selfless and dedicated service of Retired Teacher and Coordinator, Sir Rajesh Thapa (1994-2024). We bid farewell but you remain in our hearts and the soul of SRS for eternity. Your contribution in moulding and building St. Robert's and its children shall never be forgotten.

We also celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Shri Suden T. Lepcha (1999-2024), who quietly, diligently, and efficiently oils the machine that runs the mammoth that is SRS. Without his expert hands, the School would be severely handicapped.

We bow down to you both, with folded hands, for your immense contribution to the School.

With gratitude and prayers for your good health and peace of mind,

The Headmaster, Staff, and Students. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

World Earth Day 2025
  2025-04-02
4 students of Class 8 visited the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park to attend a seminar on renewable energy as part of World Earth Day 2025.

Accompanied by Dr. Saibal Sengupta, these students participated in an interactive session with the Director, PNHZ Park and his education team.

They learned about how PNHZ Park has, over the years become self reliant in terms of renewable energy through the use of rainwater harvesting and solar energy initiatives.

The students had a fun-filled tour of the zoo. We thank Dr. Basavraj, the Director and his education team for inviting us and giving our students this wonderful opportunity on Earth Day.

Nature Club Activites 2025
  2025-03-20
March 20: World Sparrow Day

Students of the Nature Club observed World Sparrow Day with a short story telling session in the school assembly. Jigme Sherab Sherpa of Class 6B narrated a short story about a Sparrow called Pipit. Other Nature Club students from Class 8D made a poster presentation highlighting the three different species of Sparrows found in Darjeeling and the urgent need to conserve them and their habitat.

March 20: Outdoor exposure visit for students of Class 5 and 6

As part of their English II Project work, students of Class 5B were taken out of the class room by their English teacher and note down ten Nouns, ten Adjectives and ten Verbs from their natural surroundings. In addition they also had to draw a sketch of whatever they saw and liked most.

While Class 5B did the outdoor exercise around the Bishop's House forest, the students of Class 6A and B were taken to the Lloyd Botanical Garden.

March 21: World Forest Day

Students of Class 8C and 8D were taken to the Lloyd Botanical Garden where a brief talk on the importance of Forests was given by Saibal Sir following which the boys were allowed to observe nature first hand. They were also asked to note Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives in Nature and draw a sketch of what they liked most.

These visits were planned in order to give the children a feel of the outdoors and to connect with nature. They enjoyed the brief but fun filled outdoor trip fully. Thanks are due to the Headmaster who permitted the students to be taken out and to the Range Officer, Lloyd Botanical Garden who allowed the use of the Park premises for these visits.
