15 students of SRS attended a three days School Nature Camp & Educational Excursion to Bunkulung between 15th-17th December.
The Nature Camp was organized by the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) under it's Place Based Education (PBE) project.
From SRS 13 Green Scouts along with 2 senior class XI students participated in the camp. In addition 14 students from Panchabati H.Sec. School also participated in the event.
The event highlighted the philosophy behind the PBE initiative in Nature Education providing a forum for the young participants to interact with each other and learn about Nature and their environment.
Mr. Yougesh Tamang, Project Associate, Education & PBE (ATREE) introduced the objectives and activities under PBE and also imparted his knowledge on resource mapping and spoke about the importance of nature education in the present day.
Dr. Saibal Sengupta who was the resource person for the camp introduced the participants to the world of birds, the basics of birding and in addition also made technical presentations on Biogeography of Darjeeling, Biodiversity of the Eastern Himalaya with specific focus on the Kanchenjunga Landscape (KL). Dr. Saibal also briefed the youngsters about butterfly diversity of the region and techniques of photographing butterflies and odonates.
Early morning group birding sessions, exposure visits to community managed farms, pisciculture units, pineapple orchards and apiary farms kept the children busy and engaged in learning.
While the early morning trips aimed at polishing birding skills and documentation the daytime was a mix of technical sessions coupled with butterfly photography and resource mapping and preparing posters for presentation. The event culminated with each group of students making an oral poster presentation on what they had learned & experienced at the camp and how they would take the message home. In the evenings the children gathered around a campfire and took part in cultural singing and dance.
The participating students, teachers and resource persons are all grateful to the Community at Bunkulung, in particular the Bunkulung Apiary &Agro Beneficiary Committee who provided accommodation and fooding for everyone.
All participants were presented with certificates by Mr. Yougesh Tamang (ATREE) who had planned the event meticulously and had a key role in its grand success.

After 3 days of public shows and over 2 months of preparation and practice, our in-house production, "पलायन" ended yesterday.
It gives me great pleasure and pride to share with you that the play (produced, directed and performed by novice amateurs) was very well received by the audience that included invitee School children. Such was the success of the almost 2 hour long drama that suggestions and requests to have a public show at Bhanu Bhawan came from several quarters including the GTA.
I take this opportunity to congratulate and to thank each teacher and each student involved in this project. Their diligence, their passion, their sacrifices, and their "never-say-die" attitude in the face of challenges, obstacles, and detractors is commendable. Hats off to each of you for stunning us all with the mind-blowing display that evoked emotions of sadness, love, laughter, happiness, and nostalgia.
I would also like to thank all our parents, alumni, friends, and well-wishers for the financial support that you rendered to lighten the burden of the expenses that we had to bear. Gratitude also to them who have promised to help!
We hope to entertain Darjeeling similarly in the near future.

Today was a special day for the Robertian Family, a day in honour of two great pillars of our School: Sir RAJESH THAPA (Retiree) & Shri SUDEN T. LEPCHA (Jubilarian).
We celebrated the selfless and dedicated service of Retired Teacher and Coordinator, Sir Rajesh Thapa (1994-2024). We bid farewell but you remain in our hearts and the soul of SRS for eternity. Your contribution in moulding and building St. Robert's and its children shall never be forgotten.
We also celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Shri Suden T. Lepcha (1999-2024), who quietly, diligently, and efficiently oils the machine that runs the mammoth that is SRS. Without his expert hands, the School would be severely handicapped.
We bow down to you both, with folded hands, for your immense contribution to the School.
With gratitude and prayers for your good health and peace of mind,
The Headmaster, Staff, and Students. 🙏🙏🙏
Time : 6.:45am
Blessings and formal inauguration of the New Auditorium and the New Chapel.

Heartfelt gratitude also to our patrons, our well-wishers, our students, and the entire Robertian fraternity for your selfless effort to bring fruition to the dream that we had conceived of.🙏🙏 🙏
